Imagine waking up one morning and hearing the overwhelming words, “You have cancer.” That was a reality for Diem Brown at 23 years old when her doctors diagnosed her with ovarian cancer. While all her friends were preparing for their weddings and new babies, she was struggling with medical bills and picking out a wig.

Once in a blue moon, I have to give myself a pep talk before I go to the gym. It goes something like this, “Get up, you lazy piece of $%*#.” Quite honestly, it has nothing to do with loss in motivation and everything to do with being stuck inside. I am just not in the mood to suck in the recycled air and am over squinting from the bad lighting.

Manicures and pedicures save lives. I can walk into my nail salon a broken woman, a la Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde,” and come out a new woman. Who cares if your ring finger is broken and your toenail is barely hanging on, there is nothing that a nail technician cannot fix, or is there?

Starburst, Skittles, Nerds, Swedish Fish and Gummy Bears are all delightful indulgences constructed of a little (or a lot) of heavenly goodness that most would refer to as sugar. There are two times a year where I become anxiety ridden because my love of candy is just about to be tested, Halloween and Easter. As I have grown older, I am able to say no to candy land and slowly walk away from the evils of a sugar rush, perhaps it is because I have found alternatives to the candy aisle.

A simple kiss can mean hello, goodbye, do not go and I love you. A kiss can express emotions of love, passion, affection, respect and friendship. It is safe to safe it all starts with a kiss.

I like to get my hands dirty, but it takes on a whole new meaning when I start ingesting dirt, or worse chemicals. The whole “buy organic” thing was not an issue when I was a kid, but is becoming an issue more and more. (I just dated myself. Oh, well, such is life.)

I have definitely washed my locks with every shampoo there is, coated my cuticle with every conditioner known to man, and then spritzed every mousse, spray gel and volumizer into my hair and never have I ever been able to lock it down and commit. Sadly, the perpetual bachelor and I are somewhat synonymous.

Once in a blue moon this girl needs an adult beverage, thankfully I have just turned 21 and I am in the clear to indulge myself, relieve some stress and take the edge off of my day. Phew!
