Haute 100 LA: Rachel Roy’s Daughter Ava Dash Helps Redecorate Rooms for Eight Young Women

Ava Dash is following in philanthropist mom, Rachel Roy, footsteps. Dash, who is only 15-years-old, has teamed up with the nonprofit The Teen Project to help redecorate rooms for teens aging out of the foster care system.

According to Women’s Wear Daily (WWD), the 10^th grader is channeling her inner creative talents to revamp four rooms for eight young women using throw blankets, area rugs and seating from Ugg, bedding from Echo, wall coverings from Tempaper, and furniture from Z Gallerie.

The teenager said to WWD, “My mom and I wanted to find a charity that I could work on on my own,” said Dash, 15. “When I come home from school my room is my sanctuary so I wanted to bring some of the cozy aspects of that into their rooms.”

Dash also tapped her celeb friends to help out with the cause. Her friends include Disney actress Peyton List, “Teen Wolf” star Cody Saintgnue, Massai Long and Charli Barcena.

For those of you who are not familiar with The Teen Project, the organization has been serving teens aging out of foster care for nearly eight years. It was founded by Lauri Burns, a former foster care teen. Burns aged out of the foster care system at the age 18 to drug addiction, prostitution and homelessness. She was rescued from the streets at age 23. During her off hours, while working, Burns decided to start The Teens Project.

The organization provides young women between the ages 18-24, who are homeless after foster care, as well as at risk homeless youth with room and board, college support, paid job internships, savings program, automobile obtainment program and independent living education. Since arriving in Venice Beach, Ca., Teen Project has provided housing to 45-60 youth per year.
