American Cancer Society Honors Tory Burch at Mother of the Year Luncheon

News | February 25, 2010

The American Cancer Society honored Tory Burch at the Mother of the Year luncheon yesterday. Raising more than $260,000, the event is one New York City’s most extraordinary social events.

Held at the Pierre Hotel on Fifth Ave., the luncheon paid tribute to the celebrated American designer and Dr. Deborah Axelrod, preeminent breast surgeon at NYU Langone Medical Center, for their commitment to the fight against cancer. According to press materials, proceeds from the event will support American Cancer Society programs and services for cancer patients and their families.

Hoda Kotb, cancer survivor and co-anchor of the fourth hour of NBC’s “Today” show, served as mistress of ceremonies. Notable attendees included Kathie Lee Gifford, Charlotte and Ann Ford, Susan Bloomberg, Paula Zahn and Vera Wang, among many more.

“Since its inception 15 years ago, the American Cancer Society’s Mother of the Year event has honored a broad spectrum of remarkable women, for whom motherhood takes the top spot when speaking of accomplishments,” says Maureen Fitzgerald, Manhattan American Cancer Society regional vice president. “It also allows us to motivate others to join the American Cancer Society in its fight against cancer.”
