Haute 100 MIA: Romero Britto Collaborates with Hublot for Only Watch Charity Auction

World-renowned pop artist and Haute 100 lister Romero Britto has collaborated with Hublot to design a one-off watch for Only Watch 2015, the biennial charity auction for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Only Watch, founded in 2005 and currently in it’s sixth edition, has brought together over 40 of the biggest names in timepieces to bring awareness to the debilitating neuromuscular disease. True to it’s name, in the literal sense, these watches will be the Only Watch of its kind.

Organized by “Association Monégasque contre les Myopathies” or the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy, other participants include luxury time piece manufactures Ulysse Nardin, Louis Vuitton, Piaget, Richard Mille and Patek Philippe. The unique watches will be auctioned off starting November 5th in Geneva and proceeds will help finance research for the cause.

A collaboration like this should come as no surprise since Britto is known for being very charitable and donating to over 250 charities a year. This also isn’t the first time the Brazilian artist has worked with Hublot. In 2014, he created the iconic brightly colored football for the Brazilian World Cup in which Hublot was the official timekeeper for. Hublot then went on to design a watch featuring Britto’s artwork for the games.

For Only Watch 2015, Britto’s Hublot watch will not be sold alone. Along with the watch, the auction participant will get Britto’s hand painted canvas that inspired the design for the timepiece. The face of the watch will don the phrase “Only Watch” in true Britto fashion in his signature vibrant colors and pop art while functioning in full capacity to Hublot’s signature quality.

Prior to the auction the Only Watch 2015 tour will begin September 23rd at the Monaco Yacht Show where the timepieces will be previewed. Phillips auction house will host the Only Watch tour to promote their newly formed watch department, “dedicated exclusively to rare and exceptional collectors’ watches,” according to the Phillips’ website. For the next month these one-of-a-kind pieces will travel from Hong Kong to Beijing to New York and London to attract the interests of these collectors and watch enthusiasts internationally.
