Palazzo Venezia: A New Chapter in the Art of La Dolce Vita on Lake Como

There are few destinations in the world where luxury feels as effortless as it does on Lake Como. Surrounded by dramatic mountains, elegant villas, and the shimmering waters of the lake, Como has long been synonymous with timeless Italian glamour. During my recent visit, I discovered a new way to experience this iconic destination at Palazzo Venezia, an elegant boutique hotel in the heart of Como city center.

For travelers who want to experience the beauty of Lake Como while remaining connected to the energy and culture of the city itself, Palazzo Venezia offers an exceptional address. Located directly on Piazza Cavour, overlooking the lake, the hotel places guests within walking distance of Como’s historic center, charming streets, restaurants, boutiques, and cultural landmarks. It is a location that perfectly combines the romance of the lake with the vibrancy of an authentic Italian city.

From the moment we arrived, the experience felt exceptional. The service was warm and attentive, and every detail throughout the hotel appeared to have been thoughtfully considered. There is an understated elegance to Palazzo Venezia that feels luxurious without ever being excessive. The atmosphere is intimate and personal, yet the rooms and suites are beautifully spacious, offering the comfort and sophistication one expects from a contemporary luxury hotel.

Our suite was one of the highlights of our stay. Spacious, beautifully designed, and incredibly comfortable, it offered a peaceful retreat in the center of Como.

I especially loved the bathroom, which featured a window overlooking Lake Como—a beautiful and unexpected detail that made the space feel particularly special. The lake views from our suite added to the sense of serenity, creating a wonderful connection between the interiors and the spectacular setting outside.

Palazzo Venezia itself has a fascinating history that adds to its character. The property occupies a historic 19th-century residence dating back to 1870, built on the site of Como’s former port area. Its architecture reflects the distinctive character of the city, blending Italian and Venetian influences with a neo-Gothic façade. The property’s iconic historic clock, dating from 1904, remains an architectural detail that connects the hotel to its past.

Today, the historic building has been thoughtfully transformed into a contemporary boutique hotel. I particularly loved the balance between the property’s heritage and its modern interiors. The result is a hotel that feels fresh and elegant while maintaining a strong sense of place. It is cozy and intimate, yet the spacious rooms give guests plenty of room to relax and enjoy the experience.

One of the unique advantages of staying at PalazzoVenezia is its connection to Villa d’Este La Collezione. Guests can enjoy select facilities at the legendary Villa d’Este, located approximately a 15-minute drive from Palazzo Venezia. During our stay, we had the opportunity to enjoy the pool and gym at Villa d’Este, adding another dimension to our experience.

I loved having this combination of experiences. PalazzoVenezia offers the convenience of staying in the heart of Como, with the city and lake immediately outside, while the connection to Villa d’Este provides the opportunity to enjoy additional leisure facilities in a more secluded setting. It gives guests the freedom to experience Como in different ways, moving effortlessly between the energy of the city and the tranquility of one of Lake Como’s most iconic properties.

The culinary experience at Palazzo Venezia is centered around Altariva Restaurant, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served. Located within the hotel, Altariva brings together refined cuisine and breathtaking views, creating a dining experience that feels deeply connected to its Lake Como setting.

Breakfast is an inviting start to the day, with an impressive selection of dishes and beautifully presented choices. I particularly enjoyed the desserts, which were absolutely delicious and added a memorable touch to the morning experience.

Lunch offers the opportunity to enjoy the restaurant’s refined cuisine in a more relaxed setting, while dinner becomes a more elevated culinary experience. Guests can choose between a tasting menu and an à la carte menu, allowing for different ways to explore the restaurant’s gastronomic vision.

At the helm of the culinary experience is Executive Chef Alessandro Rinaldi, whose approach brings together contemporary refinement and the traditions of Italian cuisine. The menu reflects the quality and elegance of the setting, with carefully prepared dishes designed to highlight exceptional ingredients.

I particularly loved the pasta. Beautifully prepared and full of flavor, it was one of my favorite dishes during our stay. There is something wonderfully special about enjoying Italian cuisine in a setting as beautiful as Lake Como, and Altariva captures that connection between food, place, and atmosphere beautifully.

The restaurant also offers an elegant setting for an evening aperitivo or a cocktail, making it easy to transition from dinner into a leisurely evening without ever having to leave the hotel.
