Conrad Hilton’s Longtime Bel Air Mansion May be Listed for $225 Million

The Bel Air home once owned by legendary hotelier Conrad Hilton may be listed for $225 million. Currently owned by Gary Winnick, the estate was built in the 1930s and includes a main house with 28,725 square feet.
Dubbed ‘Casa Encantada’, Hilton purchased the massive estate in 1950 for $225,000, or one-thousandth of its current alleged asking price, reports LA Curbed. Hilton lived in the home until he passed away in 1979, at which point the home was sold for $12.4 million to real estate mogul David Murdock, who subsequently sold the home in 2000 to Winnick for a reported $94 million.
After acquiring the home, Winnick brought in Peter Marino to do a design overhaul and updated the mechanical and electrical systems. A service wing was converted into a studio for his wife, Karen Winnick. Situated on 7.47 acres, the enormous estate includes tennis courts, a swimming pool, pool house, views of Los Angeles, seven bedrooms, a reported 20 full bathrooms, a 15-car garage and a full-sized basketball court.
According to Real Estalker, “there are those who will say the property is so one-of-a-kind in the heart of the Platinum Triangle that the alleged $225 million number is justified and doable. There are others who will think it’s utterly ludicrous since no single, private residence in the history of Los Angeles has ever sold for more than $100 million, let alone two hundred million…”
