Chef Allen’s Got the Golden Burger

Chef Allen Susser, after concluding a 25-year run with his Miami restaurant in April, now seeks to win Floridian hearts and tastebuds with a different concept: burger joints. Susser, along with Tom Parkas and Lee and George Heaton, opened Burger Bar in Palm Beach Gardens this week.  Chef Allen plans to spead his gourmet burger concept to various Florida locations—to follow the Palm Beach Gardens prototype in Donald Ross Village.

The restaurant officialy upped the style ante on Donald Ross—designed by Sterling Kenan, of Palm Beach’s Buccan—it has a gastropub feel; featuring large indoor and outdoor bars, a playful black chalkboard menu offset by tufted red booths, and creatively displays meat grinders as wall décor.

The menu offerings include 15 varieties of burger and a number of alternate dishes for the non-burger eater and the bar snacker alike.  Burger menu samples include: The Blue Sky Buffalo Burger, made from custom ground buffalo, topped with applewoof smoked bacon and Maytag blue cheese and The Chimichuri Portobello Burger with marinated mushrooms, red onion, arugala and smoked mozzerella. Another crowd pleaser is The (Hot, Delicious) Mess burger, with aged cheddar, house pickled jalapenos, bacon, and Chef Allen’s Orange-Chipotle Blasting Sauce.

For those seeking the most luxurious (and expensive) burger in the restaurant: the $25 Gold Leaf Burger, made from a custom meat blend and topped with edible 24-karat gold.  Non-burger favorites include an array of chicken wings, salads, seafood, and a must-try offering of shakes, floats, and alcohol infused “adult shakes”.
