A + R = Awesome

Last Sunday, while on a jaunt down west-side hipster hamlet Abbot Kinney, I happened across A + R, an uber modern design emporium and fell head over heels in love.

The ultimate design within reach, A + R was first founded in 2005 by Angeleno-in-the-know Rose Apodaca, a former West Coast Bureau chief of Women’s Wear Daily and her husband, British ex-pat Andy Griffith, a film editor. Suffice to say, these two lovebirds know good design when they see it.

Housed in a sleek spot with clean lines, the shop is fitted with glass and wooden decor that showcases A + R’s offerings, sourced by Apodaca and Grifftith from design powerhouses as well as individual artisans around the world.

Design gurus as well as those looking to work out any decorating frustrations will be more than satisfied by A + R’s exquisitely curated collection. From geometric folding chairs (that double as wall hangings) to chic carafes to to terrifc terrariums to handblown votive holders, A + R can help you outfit your home from dazzling desks to dope decanters.

Now that Christmas has come and gone, frankly it’s time to pick up a present or two for yourself. Maybe you’ve always wanted an Eva Solo tabletop grill? Check. Perhaps you’ve had your eye on Studio Qubus’ Delft-painted Lenin bust? Scratch it off your wish list. Maybe some nook in your new Neutra demands a set of Josef Albers and Vitra’s Bauhaus nesting tables? Sold. Personally, I’m planning to pick up Tord Boontje’s Future Floral Lights in Rugianda as well as Domestic and 5.5 Designers’ koi-in-pond floor stickers to bomb the neighborhood. Good times!
