Lunch at Dior, Diamonds by Appointment and Cocktails Above It All: The Ultimate Rodeo Drive Guide

Where to shop, eat, drink and stay on Rodeo Drive: a comprehensive luxury guide to the best of the best, courtesy of Haute Living.

Brica Wilcox

Rodeo Drive has never had much interest in being understated, and thank goodness for that. The three blocks of North Rodeo between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards pack in Chanel, Dior and Hermès, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, Patek Philippe and Rolex, plus a lunch inside the Dior flagship cooked by Dominique Crenn. Add rooftop cocktails at Dante, handmade pasta at Funke, Wolfgang Puck’s CUT and Spago, and the Beverly Wilshire sitting at the foot of the street, and you have the most glamorous few hours in Los Angeles. Or, if you do it properly, the most glamorous weekend.

Yes, there are diamonds in the windows displayed as casually as someone else might display sunglasses. But spend real time here and the street turns out to be more interesting than the postcard: extraordinary textiles, serious watchmaking, intricate goldwork and boutiques whose architecture deserves almost as much attention as the collections inside.

My advice? Book the appointments that matter, leave room for discoveries and don’t treat Rodeo as a quick stop between other Los Angeles plans. It is infinitely more fun with a proper lunch reservation and nowhere urgent to be.

First, Know the Neighborhood

The famous shopping stretch is North Rodeo Drive between Wilshire and Santa Monica boulevards. At its southern end, Two Rodeo introduces a European-style cobblestoned lane, complete with Spanish Steps–style stairs, a fountain and its own collection of boutiques. Farther north, Rodeo Collection gathers more shopping, dining and services in an open-air complex.

Don’t ignore the rest of the Golden Triangle. Beverly and Cañon drives add restaurants and shops, and Brighton Way rewards a detour. The Beverly Wilshire anchors Rodeo’s foot, The Maybourne is around the corner on Cañon, and The Peninsula and The Beverly Hills Hotel stretch the itinerary beyond the shopping blocks.

The Fashion Houses: Chanel, Dior and Hermès

Start with the three houses that make the strongest case for shopping in person. At Chanel’s flagship, 400 North Rodeo Drive, look past the bag you came for and consider the whole wardrobe: the jackets, the shoes, the details that make the house what it is.

Dior, at 323 North Rodeo Drive, turns a boutique visit into an event. Peter Marino’s architecture and the landscaped garden add a dimension most stores can’t, and Monsieur Dior by Dominique Crenn gives you every reason to stay for lunch. (Book the shopping appointment and the restaurant separately.)

At Hermès, 434 North Rodeo Drive, the most rewarding visit goes beyond the bags everyone whispers about. Silk, leather goods, ready-to-wear and home objects show off the full range of the house’s craft. As for that particular bag: that’s a conversation, not a transaction. Come curious.

Louis Vuitton, Gucci and Goyard

Louis Vuitton belongs on any serious itinerary, especially if you’re drawn to the house’s heritage in luggage; its dedicated men’s store at 420 North Rodeo Drive is a separate stop. Gucci brings a different energy, with expressive ready-to-wear, footwear and accessories that make a purchase feel like the start of an outfit. Goyard, at 405 North Rodeo Drive, is the address for patterned totes, trunks and travel pieces. If you want personalization, ask about timing before assuming it goes home with you that afternoon.

Prada, Bottega Veneta, Loewe, Fendi and Celine

This is the circuit for anyone who cares how a bag feels, functions and ages. Bottega Veneta’s intrecciato weave, Loewe’s leather craft, Fendi’s distinctive accessories, Prada’s design language and Celine’s polish offer five very different answers to the same question: what do you actually want to carry? Give the ready-to-wear equal attention while you’re there.

Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, Givenchy and Balenciaga

For an evening wardrobe with real presence, make time for Saint Laurent and Tom Ford, where tailoring, proportion and shoes are the whole point and a shopping day becomes preparation for a very good night out. Givenchy and Balenciaga add their own sharp perspectives, and Saint Laurent Rive Droite, at 469 North Rodeo Drive, extends the house’s world into a broader creative concept store.

Valentino, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana and Alexander McQueen

When the brief is an entrance, these are your houses, delivering everything from romance and embellishment to razor-sharp construction and pure theater. Carolina Herrera and CH Carolina Herrera also belong on the occasion-dressing circuit; check what each boutique carries before you go.

Stefano Ricci, Loro Piana, Brunello Cucinelli and the Tailoring Circuit

Some of the best purchases on Rodeo only reveal themselves by touch. Stefano Ricci adds another serious menswear address. Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli are the stops for cashmere and fabrics you’ll want to live in. Giorgio Armani, Zegna, Brioni and Canali make the case for tailoring, and Then there’s House of Bijan at 443 North Rodeo Drive, the street’s famously appointment-only institution, complete with its signature yellow Bugatti out front. Arrange that one in advance.

The Rest of the Wardrobe

A full circuit also takes in Gabriela Hearst, Ermanno Scervino, Lanvin, Etro, Max Mara, Burberry, Moncler, Ralph Lauren, Tory Burch and Michael Kors Collection, whether you’re after the perfect coat, a great print or refined everyday dressing. Amiri brings homegrown Los Angeles luxury into the mix, and Kith adds contemporary fashion and collaborations.

Shoes, Accessories and Finishing Touches

For shoes, Christian Louboutin at 477 North Rodeo Drive and Jimmy Choo are essential, with Tod’s and Ferragamo covering Italian leather goods and Golden Goose supplying something more casual. Persol handles eyewear, Porsche Design brings accessories and lifestyle pieces, and Rimowa makes luggage shopping feel right at home here. Vilebrequin covers swim and resortwear at the Wilshire end, and Frette is the stop for linens that will outlast the trip.

Fine Jewelry: Make the Appointment

Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels are often where the jewelry circuit begins, and for good reason: two houses with unmistakable design languages, from Cartier’s iconic pieces and watches to Van Cleef’s motifs and high jewelry. Whether you’re after an everyday piece or a serious purchase, give yourself time to compare proportions and try alternatives. What looks perfect in a photo can be an entirely different story on the wrist.

Harry Winston and Tiffany & Co. anchor the diamond circuit; tell them what you’d like to see when booking, especially for an important stone. Graff, for the record, isn’t on Rodeo itself: its Beverly Hills address is at Saks Fifth Avenue on Wilshire. Boucheron, at 449 North Rodeo Drive, brings another great French house to the street, Bvlgari offers Roman color and sculptural form, and Buccellati rewards a close look at its extraordinary goldwork.

Mikimoto is the essential pearl stop. Pomellato adds colored stones and contemporary Italian design, Piaget spans jewelry and watches, and David Yurman, Jason of Beverly Hills and Peter Marco round out the options, from everyday signatures to custom statement pieces. Chopard and Messika are available through Westime at 206 North Rodeo Drive; arrange specific viewings in advance.

Watches: The Collector’s Circuit

Rodeo is at its most rewarding when you arrive with a few watch appointments already locked in. Patek Philippe and Rolex have boutiques on the street, joined by Vacheron Constantin, IWC Schaffhausen and Jaeger-LeCoultre. At Two Rodeo, Audemars Piguet, Breguet, Breitling and Richard Mille make the pedestrian lane a destination in its own right, and MB&F Lab offers a more experimental take on horology.

Grand Seiko (439 North Rodeo Drive) and Panerai (441 North Rodeo Drive) are worth the stop, and Hublot is around the corner on Brighton Way. For the broadest conversation, Westime carries a deep bench of brands, from Greubel Forsey and H. Moser & Cie. to Urwerk and Zenith, plus certified pre-owned pieces; confirm what’s in the Beverly Hills store before you go. The Rodeo Vault in Rodeo Collection rounds things out with collectible watches, jewelry and handbags. For any collectible purchase, ask about condition, provenance, paperwork and warranty first.

Timing tip: Rodeo Drive’s annual Watch and Jewelry Week runs October 5–11 this year, with boutique events across the street.

Where to Eat

Monsieur Dior by Dominique Crenn

House of Dior, 323 North Rodeo Drive

If one reservation sums up Rodeo right now, it’s this one: Dominique Crenn’s cooking served inside the Dior flagship. Shop first, then settle in for a long lunch amid the architecture and garden. It feels like a destination, not a pit stop.

The Hideaway

Rodeo Collection

Set inside Rodeo Collection, this Mexican steakhouse is a livelier change of pace. Choose it when the shopping party wants a real meal and a round of drinks without leaving the street’s orbit.

Vicky on Rodeo

208 North Rodeo Drive, Two Rodeo

A Parisian bistro on the cobblestones of Two Rodeo, and a very convenient one. Book under its current name; older guides may still list the space’s former restaurant, 208 Rodeo.

THE Blvd and CUT by Wolfgang Puck

Beverly Wilshire, 9500 Wilshire Boulevard

The Beverly Wilshire covers two very different moments. THE Blvd is the easy Californian lunch at the foot of Rodeo between appointments. CUT, Puck’s flagship steakhouse, is the evening reservation, with serious beef and seafood to close out a shopping day properly.

Spago

176 North Cañon Drive

Puck’s Beverly Hills flagship is still a defining name in the neighborhood. Book it when dinner deserves to be its own occasion.

Funke

9388 South Santa Monica Boulevard

Evan Funke’s restaurant gives handmade pasta the reverence it deserves, and the craft is the whole point. The rooftop Bar Funke is reason enough to come early or linger late.

Avra and Il Pastaio

North Beverly Drive and North Cañon Drive

Avra brings Greek seafood and an open-air villa feel to Beverly Drive, ideal for a long, fish-centric lunch. Il Pastaio, on Cañon, is the trattoria alternative: pasta, risotto and an alfresco table that slots neatly into an afternoon of shopping.

The Terrace at The Maybourne

The Maybourne Beverly Hills, 225 North Cañon Drive

Overlooking Beverly Cañon Gardens, The Terrace brings a piazza feel to the circuit, with Mediterranean influences and California ingredients. It’s the meal that comfortably stretches into whatever comes next.

Cocktails, Coffee and Afternoon Tea

Dante Beverly Hills, on The Maybourne’s rooftop, is the destination for aperitivo-style cocktails with a view. Book for sunset and let the drinks be their own event. Bar Funke is the other rooftop worth knowing, with a glowing pink quartz bar and views across Beverly Hills; it takes reservations and walk-ins, weather permitting.

For an indoor hotel bar, try The Maybourne Bar or CUT Lounge at the Beverly Wilshire. The Maybourne Café is the daytime pause for coffee and pastries by the gardens, and afternoon tea in The Peninsula’s Living Room turns a shopping break into a proper ritual. The Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel is the most Beverly Hills meal of all, though it requires a separate trip up to Sunset.

Beauty, Fragrance and a Little Downtime

Henry Jacques, at 204 North Rodeo Drive, is the destination for fine fragrance and a purchase that feels genuinely personal. La Maison Valmont at Two Rodeo brings Swiss skincare, fragrance and treatments; call ahead to book a service. For a proper reset, The Spa at Beverly Wilshire is the most convenient, while The Spa at The Maybourne and The Peninsula Spa make sense if you’re staying or dining there.

Beyond the Boutiques

Two Rodeo’s lane, fountain and steps make for one of the district’s signature photo ops. On the main street, stop at Anderton Court, Frank Lloyd Wright’s only commercial building in Beverly Hills, with its spiraling ramp and tower. The Rodeo Drive Walk of Style honors fashion and entertainment figures, marked by Robert Graham’s Torso sculpture at Rodeo and Dayton Way, and Halcyon Gallery and Winn Slavin Fine Art add art to the mix. Head toward Santa Monica Boulevard for Beverly Gardens Park, the Beverly Hills sign and the lily pond. And for vintage, detour to What Goes Around Comes Around on Brighton Way, with dedicated Chanel and Hermès departments.

Where to Stay

Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel

9500 Wilshire Boulevard

For proximity, it can’t be beaten. The hotel sits at the foot of Rodeo, so the boutiques become part of the rhythm of your stay, and CUT, THE Blvd and the spa let much of the day unfold without ever leaving the building.

The Maybourne Beverly Hills

225 North Cañon Drive

The pick when shopping is only part of the plan. A block from Rodeo, it pairs easy access with The Terrace, Dante on the roof and a substantial spa, giving you reasons to return between outings.

The Peninsula Beverly Hills

9882 South Santa Monica Boulevard

Another luxury base within easy reach of the shopping district, with afternoon tea and the spa supplying reasons to stay in. It suits an itinerary that gives the hotel as much attention as the boutiques.

The Beverly Hills Hotel

9641 Sunset Boulevard

For the gardens-and-bungalows version of Beverly Hills. The Polo Lounge is reason enough, but Sunset is a drive from Rodeo, so plan on a car rather than a stroll.

How to Spend the Day

Start with coffee, then give the morning to two or three shopping appointments. Book lunch at Monsieur Dior, THE Blvd or Vicky on Rodeo, and save the afternoon for jewelry, watches, fragrance or a vintage detour. Wander Two Rodeo and Anderton Court, then head up for rooftop drinks at Dante or Bar Funke. Finish with dinner at Spago, Funke or CUT. For a slower pace, swap the second round of boutiques for a spa treatment. The real luxury of Rodeo is having so much within reach, and enough time to enjoy it.
