Why Camp When You Can Glamp?

News | June 29, 2010

Some may call it anti-camping, but we here at Haute Living, we just call it luxury. Glamping, which stands for glamorous camping, is the perfect vacation option for those who love nature but don’t love roughing it. Long gone are the days of uncomfortable sleeping arrangements, insect-invested camp sites, and general lack of hygiene. The glamping craze is sweeping the nation, so here are a couple of Northern California locations to add to your to-do list.

Costanoa Coastal Lodge and Camp, Pescadero, CA

The bungalows at Costanoa are a relaxing, yet decadent way to spend a vacation. These tent cabins come in two sizes. They have smaller tents for up to two guests or you can reserve a family bungalow for parties of three or more. Though the bungalows are made of metal frames covered in canvas, they all include electricity, sliding windows and a locking door. Their restrooms, also known as comfort stations, feature indoor hot showers, heated concrete floors, a 24-hour dry sauna and an outdoor fireplace. You can also enjoy the serenity and peace of nature in their outdoor hot tub. In addition to these great amenities, the resort features a spa, restaurant and a variety of group activities, including wine tours.

Costanoa Coastal Lodge and Camp is located at 2001 Rossi Road at Hwy 1, Pescadero, Calif. Reservations can be made by calling 650.879.1100.

Treebones Resort, Big Sur, California

To experience all the stunning views of Big Sur in style, glamp at the yurts at Treebones Resort. These 16 rounded tent cabins have all the comforts of home, plus an amazing ocean view. All yurts include queen-sized beds with linens, hot and cold running water, heating and electricity, and wooden floors. They feature French doors with a private observation deck. Through the yurt’s sky dome, you can even sleep under the stars. The resort has a heated pool and hot tub with ocean views and cuisine that will keep you satisfied. Not only is their lounge home to the Wild Coast restaurant, but they also have an outdoor sushi and tapas bar.

Treebones Resort is located at 71895 Highway 1, Big Sur, Calif. Reservations can be made by calling 877.424.4787.
