We know a cadre of fabulous folks from Miami that make the pilgrimage to Louisville, Kentucky every year to watch the famous Kentucky Derby. But if you’re Miami-bound, consider on of these fun options that range from heading to the track in your fanciest hat like they do in Kentucky to sitting by the water gobbling down lobster.

1 Gulfstream Park

The closest thing to the derby's hat contest in Miami is the Divas & Darlings Hat Contest at Gulfstream Park. In addition to competing for the fanciest hat, the watch party is pretty legit too. It is said to be the world's largest Kentucky Derby Watch Party...and you can place bets. Festivities start at noon, and the race starts at 4pm.

2 Yardbird Southern Table & Bar

Yardbird will tip their Derby hats to the race by having their annual event that includes broadcasting the race and offering southern specials. Look for their Derby Biscuit sampler, which includes crispy chicken, smoked brisket and Virginia ham versions of their famous biscuits. Bourbon drinks for $10 Makers 46 on the rocks. Like the race, the promotion is very short - just from 4-7pm.

3 Bourbon Steak

With a name like "Bourbon Steak" it's not surprising they celebrate the southern race with an annual Kentucky Derby Party, broadcasting the race on 50-inch HD screen in Bouron Steak's lounge while serving mint juleps ($8) and complimentary canapes by chef Gabe Fenton. The main event is 5-7pm, stay for dinner and your check will be 20% off.

4 Yard House

With multiple locations, extensive flat screens and a large and tasty menu of dishes, beers on draft and cocktails like the derby's signature Mink Julep, the Yard House is a great bet. We also love the extensive use of the outdoors, whether it's the patio in Merrick Park, Miami Beach, or even Gulfstream Park, this upscale sports bar even gets ladies' approval.

5 Smith and Wollensky

While they aren't having anything official—they'll have the channel set to the action in Kentucky and their open-air patio in South Pointe Park is the perfect place to wear a big hat and order some surf and turf. We think this is a pretty good bet to enjoy the beautiful weather and a Mint Julep.
