Marilyn Monroe Photographs Taken by Milton Greene Sold at Auction

More than 3,500 never-before-seen photos of Hollywood icon, Marilyn Monroe, taken by New York photographer Milton Greene were sold at auction on July 27. The sale not only included images of the starlet, but also the negatives, as well as the valuable copyrights.

“It’s a big, big deal,” Joseph Maddalena, owner of Profiles in History, told The Associated Press. “It’s like selling the recipe for Coca-Cola.”

The lot included 3,700 photographs taken over the course of 52 sessions during the 1950s, none of which have ever been published before. Greene has also shot of some of Hollywood’s most celebrated stars, including Paul Newman, Ava Gardner, Barbara Streisand, Jane Fonda and Cary Grant.
