Celebrity Launches New Contemporary Art-Laden Ship, Reflection

Celebrity Cruises launched Reflection, a new ship that should get even the too-cool-to-cruise set excited. Boasting a contemporary collection to get even the biggest collectors a little green. Prominent Miami artists Christina Lei Rodriguez, Bert Rodriguez and Carlos Betancourt all represent among big names including Jeff Koons and Sherri Levine. Thematically the art is a group based on Reflection, either literally or the pensive kind. Certainly gives passengers something to think about while they peruse the Breitling or Michael Kors boutiques. Indeed the launch of the ship the week of Art Basel Miami Beach seems impeccably timed.

Of course there are the gut-busting cafeteria-style buffets, and delicious specialty restaurants like Blu, Tuscan Grill and Qsine, where iPads serve as menus and a Rubik’s type cube announces desert choices. Other highlights include a beautiful library, iLounge, full of brand new Apple computers for guests to buy online time. The spa is also top notch – as cruisers have come to expect in recent years – and includes ornately tiled hammams, cold room, sensory shower and heated lounges with ocean views.

But perhaps the most important part for Haute Living readers are the suites, the jewels of which are the Penthouse and Reflection Suite that would be considered big even on terra firma. The latter boasts a glass-encased shower that floats over the sea that turns opaque for privacy at the touch of a button. Butler service, floor to ceiling views of the sea, Frette linens, fresh flowers and Bulgari products are just some of the perks these tip-top rooms offer.

Regular state rooms are still very comfortable and well appointed, but how much time will they spend in their rooms when they can be taking an art class, sitting on the luxurious lawn or playing a hand of blackjack.
