Fall is in the air, and with it comes the New Yorker Festival, a series of literary and cultural events taking place October 5-7. Tickets are on sale now. Here are five highlights of the weekend:

  • Money: Preeminent British authors Martin Amis, John Lanchester and Zadie Smith discuss fiction and, we presume, greenbacks at a roundtable moderated by Deborah Treisman. 7 p.m. Friday, October 5 at the Directors Guild Theater.
  • Patti Smith: Timeless downtown punk demigod and award-winning author Smith waxes lyrical with New Yorker poetry editor Paul Muldoon. 1 p.m. Saturday, October 6 at Acura at SIR Stage37.
  •  Cloud Atlas: Andy and Lana Wachowski, the sibling directors behind The Matrix, discuss Cloud Atlas after a sneak peek at one of the season’s most hotly anticipated movies. 7 p.m. Saturday October 6 at MasterCard Stage at SVA Theater 1.
  • Vampire Weekend: The Ivy League indie rockers chat with Atul Gawande about their lightning fast rise to musical fame and imminent third album. 10 p.m. Saturday October 6 at Acura at SIR Stage37.
  • Portlandia Live: Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, the minds and actors behind razor sharp hipster satire Portlandia, bring their quirky variety show to life. 4 p.m. Sunday October 7 at Acura at SIR Stage37.
