Haute Event: Larry King, Jared Leto, Hayden Panettiere Attend WildAid Gala

On May 14, wildlife conservation organization WildAid hosted its star-studded annual charity gala.

Larry King, Hayden Panettiere, Jared Leto, Maggie Q, John Corbett, Kate Flannery, and Bo Derek were among the 300 attendees who came out to support.

The black tie dinner included a presentation by WildAid founder Peter Knights, a live auction, and awards presented to Google and James H. Clark for their innovative use of technology to benefit conservation, i.e. the Google Ocean Program

The organization’s clear message, “when the buying stops, the killing can too,” resonated more with Knight’s presentation of a new PSA featuring Pau Gasol of LA Lakers and a preview release of  a documentary on the rhino and elephant poaching crisis in Africa, viewed from the perspective of a long-time WildAid ambassador, Yao Ming.

For the lighter part, the guests savored a live musical performance by the John Corbett Band, specialty cocktails from POM Wonderful and Ketel One, cupcakes from the The Food Network, and an exhibit of the virtual oceans by theBlu.

WildAid’s advocacy goes beyond awareness. Through its Asian and Western celebrity ambassadors, it dissuades people from patronizing wildlife products, thereby adding to the wider goal of wildlife conservation.
