Sprinkles Cupcakes Opens in New York

If you’re like me and your favorite dessert happens to be cupcakes, then I’ve got a treat for you (pun intended!). This treat, which has my mouth salivating and my stomach grumbling is Sprinkles Cupcakes, which is opening its first New York storefront this Friday on the Upper East Side. From their new shop, we can expect “A cupcake Walk of Fame,” a screen of sprinkles scaling the façade, and a party room with cupcake shaped ottomans, including, obviously, the actual cupcakes to eat!

And while the Sprinkles vs. Magnolia cupcake debate is already out in full force, the owners of Sprinkles, Candace and Charles Nelson, reportedly got the idea to leave their investment banking jobs and open Sprinkles from their stint working at Magnolia Bakery! The pair opened their flagship store in Beverly Hills and the rest is history! Barbara Streisand helped put Sprinkles on the map in 2005 when she sent a batch to Oprah who featured them on her show…and I’m sure you know what happened next (hint: world domination!)

The press release calls this its “first New York location,” which means hopefully it won’t be its last!

Sprinkles is located at 780 Lexington Avenue (between 60th and 61st Streets); www.sprinkles.com.
