Haute Spot: The Market at Santa Monica Place Opens on Friday

The city of Santa Monica has forever changed. Sedentary, sit-down lunches are now a thing of the past and on-the-go gourmet, cafeteria-style feasts are all the rage. That’s right; a bit of New York noshing has trickled down to the West Coast thanks to the highly anticipated grand opening of The Market at Santa Monica Place.

Opening it doors on Friday, the novel group of independently owned California-based businesses located on the shopping center’s third-floor dining deck will offer everything from locally grown fare and fanciful beverage offerings to designer gifts and floral arrangements.

On the savory side of things, famed restaurateur, Piero Selvaggio (Valentino), will offer homemade pastas with his quaint  trattoria, Primi Al Mercato. For something sweet, Beachy Cream will shell out artisan ice cream sandwiches while French chocolatier, L’Artisan du Chocolat, displays hand-crafted confections. The acclaimed Groundwork Coffee Company will supply the caffeine and The Gourmandise School of Sweets and Savories—run by pastry expert Clemence Gosett and Hadley Hughes—plans to contribute something special with intimate cooking classes and state-of-the-art demonstrations. A few additional highlights to include Magical Blooms for flowers and Bendetta for holistic skincare treats.
