The much anticipated O Cinema, located in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District, quietly opened last weekend and will serve as the host for the internationally acclaimed Bicycle Film Festival, during its stop in Miami. The new art establishment previously opened to the public for a sneak peek in December 2010 during Art Basel week, but closed immediately thereafter for further development and had until this week not shown signs of life.

O Cinema begins its regular programming on Thursday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. with the film Mississippi Damned, and Four Lions premieres next week. The concept for the cinema was imagined by two local art and non-profit mavens, Vivian Marthell and Kareem Tabsch, and aims to increase Miami’s film culture by making film and entertainment accessible to the local population. The Cinema which is a recipient of The Knight Foundation Arts Challenge will be running on a $400,000 grants spread throughout 3 years. In addition to showing art, foreign, and independent films, a rotating art exhibition will be on display in the main hall. These rotating art exhibitions will also hold a first for Miami’s art scene- an in depth look at video art.
