Haute Event: The Joffrey Ballet Nutcracker Family Dinner

The Women’s Board of The Joffrey Ballet presents the 13th annual Nutcracker Family Dinner which will be held on Saturday, December 11th, 2010 at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel.  The popular family-friendly holiday event raised over $110,000 last year. The evening will feature entertainment for children and adults alike, a traditional family-style meal, and a thrilling performance of Robert Joffrey’s The Nutcracker. Chicago event designer Jody Elting brought her imagination to life with a magical “green” theme featuring a 12 ft. recycled water bottle tree, recycled Birch trees as “creation stations”, and locally sourced poultry and vegetable products.

The delightful evening begins at 4:00 p.m. on the fourth floor of the Palmer House in the State Ballroom, with cocktails, punch, lively entertainment and special “Creation Stations” that the entire family can enjoy.

The “Creation Stations” include:

Popcorn Stringing – Guests are invited to decorate the trees with Chicago’s own Garrett’s popcorn.
Terri Lee – This timeless company, known for beautiful dolls, will be on hand to help guests decorate their very own tiara or snowman while hosting a fun game with prizes for all.
CircEsteem – This Chicago non-profit will teach guests how to walk a tight wire and spin plates while their talented young performers entertain with stilt walking and peacock feather balancing.
Dessert Decorating – The Palmer House will supply guests with the tools and ingredients to decorate their own desserts.  These tasty works of art include cupcakes, cookies, frosting and fun toppings.
Face Painting – Face painters will be on hand to turn guests into their favorite characters from The Nutcracker.
Snowflake Creation – Each one is unique – add to the table décor or take it home as a souvenir.
Photo Opportunity – Guests will pose with characters from The Nutcracker, either a life-size nutcracker or other friends.
Lego Activity – Guests can create Nutcracker characters at this lego station that all ages can enjoy.

At 5:15 pm, guests will be seated in the Grand Ballroom for a traditional family-style meal and treated to a “mini” performance of The Nutcracker.

Tickets to the event include a performance ticket for Saturday, December 11th, 2010 at either the matinee or evening performance of The Nutcracker at the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University.
