You can’t deny the old school charm of sipping a smooth scotch and smoking a cigar. I can’t always promise you Cubans, but these five bars have the definitive angle on where to get a good scotch in this town.
1 The Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel
For those of you who don’t know your Glenlivets from your Glenfiddichs, this Hollywood institution is an excellent place to get an education. This after all is the place that refused Mia Farrow service for wearing pants and that provided scenery for "The Bad and the Beautiful." For all those mad for "Mad Men," It’s still a great place to relax, order two fingers neat and pretend you’ve just closed the deal.
2 The Club Bar at the Peninsula Hotel
3 The Grand Havana Room
The entrance to the members-only Grand Havana Room can be hard to find. That’s because it’s located in a restaurant on Canon Drive in Beverly Hills, where guests introduce themselves to a hostess who unlocks a secret elevator that takes members to the smoking lounge and bar. If you’re into the cloak-and-dagger routine or just value your privacy, this may be the spot for you. Members pay yearly fees and monthly humidor upkeep and trust me, the panoramic views of the city, the cigar selection and the extensive premium scotch menu are well worth it.
4 The Hunt Room at The Regency Club
5 Seven Grand
This whiskey bar shelves over 300 select whiskeys, scotches and bourbons, kind of like an adult Disneyland for Scotch enthusiasts. With environs that somehow manage to look as if the Sex Pistols decorated a library, Seven Grand is known for those looking to have a grand old time — into the wee hours of the morn.
