It’s midnight, you and your crew are starving. Time to scream, “Stella!” out into the night like Marlon Brando in Street Car Named Desire. Serving a fantastic late-night menu until 130AM 7 nights a week, Stella is a South End hotspot for fantastic food, lively folks and up-tempo tunes. Where else can you get honey glazed salmon served up fresh at 1AM on a Tuesday?
Washington St., South End, Boston
2 South Street Diner
No list of Boston late night east would be complete without paying homage to the mainstay for late night diner comfort food in Beantown: The South Street Diner, open 24 hours. If you didn’t get a chance to grab a certain someone’s digits before the club let out, there is a good chance you may happen upon them again at South Street. Be prepared for a line at this classic diner food spot, though sometimes that is half the fun. Or, for parties of three or more that like to plan ahead, give the diner a call and they just may save you a booth.
178 Kneeland St., Leather District, Boston
3 Eastern Standard
Offering a late night menu until 130AM 7 days a week, Kenmore Square’s Eastern Standard offers just the kinds of treats one might crave when the midnight munchies set in. An ES cuban, fried calamari, or steak tartare all great options. But if your hunger grows beyond expectation, try seafood by the piece including Alaskan king crab legs, oysters, clams or ceviche.
528 Commonwealth Ave., Kenmore Sq., Boston
4 Border Café
All of those Harvard brain cells need to be fueled to make it through their all nighters. Their solution in Harvard Square is easily the Border Café. How those margaritas affect their grades, however, is anyone’s guess. Open until 1AM Monday through Thursday and until 2AM Friday and Saturday, the Tex Mex smells emanating from this corner hot spot are enough to pull anyone in through the front doors until they’re sitting fat and happy with a plate of blackened catfish in front of them at the ready.
32 Church St., Harvard Sq., Cambridge
5 The Hen House
Are you a southern belle at heart lost in the historically puritan ways (and cuisine) of the Boston scene. Where can you find some good southern style cooking at say 3AM on a Friday night? Try the Hen House on Mass Ave for waffles and wings… or pulled pork, mac ‘n cheese and cole slaw. Or, if you are counting calories, even in the wee hours – rotisserie chicken is also available. Hen House is open until 4AM Friday and Saturday.
