Martin Scorsese

Category: Thinkers

Company: World Cinema Foundation

Industry: Film

What Made Him Haute: Critics and film scholars have called him the greatest living American director, several of his movies occupy spots on the AFI’s list of greatest movies, he finally got that Oscar for 2007’s The Departed, and, thankfully, there are no signs of him slowing down.

What Makes Him Haute Now: Scorsese’s most recent film, the eerie Shutter Island starring Leonardo DiCaprio, was a box office success back in February, earning more than $42 million in its opening weekend. For some perspecitive, his last film starring DiCaprio opened at only $26 million. Scorsese’s newest film, Hugo Cabret, has recently confirmed its cast, and it already looks like it’s another blockbuster in the making. Hugo Cabret is said to include Ben Kinglsey, Jude Law, Sacha Baron Cohen and will be the 67-year-old director’s first ever 3D film.  He is also said to direct the upcoming 2011 film, Sinatra, which will (quite obviously) be a story about the legendary entertainer, Frank Sinatra.
