Ugly Betty Fashions Milly

A designer can create a jumpsuit, but can they turn it into a fashion trend? Celeb-favorite brand, Milly, not only broke its way onto the runway of New York’s fashion week, but into the wardrobe of Ugly Betty star America Ferrera. Straight off the spring runway, Ferrera ditched the braces and rocked the striking Milly Raw Silk Barkcloth Strapless Jumpsuit on March 21 to the Los Angeles premiere of her upcoming movie How To Train Your Dragon.

Moving away from the line’s spring collection of black-inspired pieces, designer Michelle Smith returned to the color palette during the Fall show indulging in what may have been a bit more than the brand could handle. Top looks along the runway included double-faced wool peacoats, wool jacket-and-miniskirt pairings, and striped sequin cap-sleeved dresses; however, according to style.com the chic styles were undercut by the distracting accents of the neon pink tights and hectic plaid heels. Despite the styling choices, Smith embraced the coated fabrics together in order to achieve what many called an “artfully layered look.”

The line is certainly nothing short of glam. After studying and working in Paris with design powerhouses including Christian Dior and Louis Vuitton, designer and founder, Michelle Smith, returned to America and merged her ideas and aspirations with co-founder, Andrew Oshrin, eventually leading to the creation of Milly. After being founded in 2000, over the years the brand flourished throughout the fashion market landing its unique designs in boutiques around the world.
