Haute Style: Going for Designer Gold

The 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics are getting more glamorous by the designer, it seems! With the opening ceremonies set for February 12, the parade of athletes will look more stylish than ever this year.

Ralph Lauren is this year’s official Olympic “parade outfitter” for all the United States athletes, an honor he has had before, including at the Beijing games. This time the uniforms were inspired by the 1932 Lake Placid games, and include navy puffer jackets and Fair Isle knit hats. Vera Wang will be creating the competitive figure skating outfits, which is only fitting considering that at one time, she wore them! Wang not only used to be a figure skater, but she had even competed at the National Championships. Now as a designer, she has earned a spot in the U.S. Figure Skating Hall of Fame thanks to her costumes.

And last, but certainly not least, Canada’s favorite designer twins, Dsquared’s Dean and Dan Caten, are getting in on the act by creating ensembles for headlining performers at the opening and closing ceremonies.  They will also launch limited edition fleece hoodies, which will be exclusively available at the party they are hosting the Vancouver Holt Renfrew. Good luck to all of the athletes!
