The Peaceful Warrior

She makes honey for Harrods, Selfridges, and Bamford. She takes on big oil companies without batting an eye. She produces 6,000 bottles of organic olive oil each year. She delivers formal addresses to the United Nations General Assembly. She cultivates organic wine on her Tuscan estate. She is a UNICEF Ambassador. She heads up her own production company, releasing award-winning films. She is a wife to rock-legend Sting, a mother of four, and in October, Trudie Styler presented the first of five DVDs in the mind, body, fitness series Trudie Styler’s Warrior Yoga from Gaiam, Inc.

With such a schedule of passionate involvement, it seems quite fitting that she would find a way to incorporate the courageous strength of a warrior to guide her through a lifetime of personal and professional achievements.

“In the ashtanga form of yoga, the warrior position is a very elongated pose with the legs and the arms out horizontally. It is quite an assertive stance,” Styler explains from her New York City home right before Thanksgiving. Just the day before, she demonstrated the power of such a stance at the photo shoot for this article, which took place in the yoga studio at David Barton Gym at Astor Place in Greenwich Village.
