In the last several years, the term “medicine” has taken on a new, and in some ways more promising, definition. Yet, the “Botanical Revolution” is not such a new discovery. The history of medicinal cannabis goes back to ancient times.
The legalization of cannabis has created a tidal wave of new products and propelled millions of dollars into furthering the research of this plant. There are two main categories of chronic pain - neuropathic (pain caused by disease or damage which affects the somatosensory nervous system) and inflammatory nociceptive (things like inflammation, sprains, bruises, myofascial pain and more). Studies show that cannabis can be most beneficial in treating the latter types of pain.
Some researchers take the stance that CBD (a cannabinoid) may actually counteract the anti-inflammatory and anti-pain elements found in botanicals called terpenes (the other cannabinoid) found in the plant. In the words of one leading expert, terpenes “could produce synergy with respect to treatment of pain, inflammation, depression, anxiety, addiction, epilepsy, cancer, fungal and bacterial infections.” (Dr. Ethan Russo, Neurologist and expert, published in the British Journal of Pharmacology). It is believed that nearly all of the major terpenes in cannabis are either analgesic (anti-pain) or anti-inflammatory.
In addition to the treatments I offer and the arsenal of tools I use every day to treat patients in my office, another treatment that I'm finding to be incredibly effective is hemp in the form of oil in a pain balm. There are many products on the market today. After having tried a great deal of them - some with a positive response and some without - I made it my mission to create [in my lab] the most effective pain balm I've used yet. I have been closely following and researching the Cannabis revolution for the last two years. I have tested over 30 of the leading “pain creams” and saw first-hand what was lacking. I have collaborated with a scientist/colleague of mine and together we created a botanical pain cream that we have tested on patients and whose benefits we witnessed first-hand. Multiple studies show that whole, complete Cannabis essential oil exhibits greater activity than any of its individual constituents. This implies that the ingredients work together synergistically to provide health benefits.

Some research concluded that flavonoids (molecules) are nearly 30 times more effective at reducing inflammation than aspirin. Clinical studies also confirm that patients with neuropathic pain derive many benefits from cannabinoid treatment. This was the conclusion by a study published in the Journal of Neurotherapeutics. The study also demonstrated a considerable improvement in the general well-being of the patients. The results have been so phenomenal that it drove me to create BioMed Scientific Hemp Balm. When applied topically, the balm permeates the skin and fires up the body's natural endocannabinoids to soothe pain and reduce inflammation.
BioMed Scientific Botanical Hemp Hot Balm is handmade in Beverly Hills. The cannabis extraction process is designed to allow the balm to be free of THC and CBD while utilizing the powerful health benefits of the over 500 natural plant chemicals found in the cannabis sativa plant.
Unlike other salves, BioMed products contain 3000mg of cannabis sativa extract and high amounts of other active ingredients, all chosen for their pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. BioMed Scientific pain balm also has Arnica Montana which has been used for centuries in herbal medicine for its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. The base ingredients, such as babassu oil, cocoa and shea butter, are biologically active and are scientifically formulated to maximize skin penetration and delivery of the plant extracts.
Applied to the desired area, the cannabis balm is rapidly absorbed into the skin releasing hundreds of plant extracts to fight pain and inflammation.
