Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) facials are a haute topic in the world of skincare. At ELIVATE MedSpa Wellness they offer both PRP and a derivative of it, Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF). Both autologous blood-derived products that contain high concentrations of platelets and growth factors, hence these facials work very well to stimulate tissue and repair your skin after only a few sessions. Here Haute Beauty experts at ELIVATE explain PRF in detail.
What is PRF?
PRF is a facial that provides natural rejuvenation to your skin by using your own powerful cells. It is a great rejuvenation treatment that is 100% natural and has maximal growth factor stimulation.
What's the difference between PRP and PRF?
PRF has more platelets and longer-lasting growth factors. The method by which we extract a small sample of blood is exactly the same for both PRP and PRF but PRP usually requires a larger sample. The difference is in the centrifugation of the sample for PRF and PRP. PRF does not require any use of additives or anticoagulants which is used with PRP. This is important to note without anticoagulants the natural fibrinogen is converted to fibrin which creates a spongy matrix that activates platelets and allows for a slow release of growth factors which starts the healing process.
PRF has been shown to have higher concentrations of platelets, fibrin, white blood cells, and a small number of your own stem cells. PRP releases growth factors for a few hours and PRF releases them for up to a week. There is currently a lot of research being done to test the differences between PRP and PRF.
Who's a candidate?
Any patient looking to enhance and rejuvenate their skin naturally without using filler. Since there is nothing but the patient's own blood and growth factors being used the risk of complications or rejection is close to nonexistent.

Is there downtime involved?
The procedure is very quick with little downtime. Like any other aesthetic procedure using needles, cannula, or micro-needling, bruising is always a possibility. There will always be a risk of bruising, pain, and redness when using a needle in a treatment.
How long do the results of PRF last?
We recommend a series of 3-4 treatments at a 4 to 6-week interval depending on the area and the desired outcome. Initially, you may see a plumping or swelling result but results are typically seen a few weeks after treatment. The precise amount of time that PRP or PRF lasts varies from person to person. Studies have shown it can be effective for up to 9 months.
