Even though summer is out and winter is in, it is never too late to get started on your summer bod, especially at ELIVATE MedSpa. Losing weight is hard, which is why ELIVATE along with many practices across the country are offering Accufit, a non-invasive sculpting treatment, and Semaglutide, a game-changing medication for weight loss. To learn more about how both work, who's an ideal candidate, and so on, we sat down with Haute Beauty experts at ELIVATE; here's what they shared.

How does Semaglutide work?

Semaglutide works by increasing a feeling of fullness and reducing your appetite and food cravings. It mimics a hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) that targets areas of the brain that regulate appetite and food intake. The medication dose must be increased gradually to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. It has been shown to lower weight, waist size, blood pressure, blood sugar and inflammation. Semaglutide is one of the most promising weight loss drugs to hit the market in years! It is FDA approved for weight management in overweight and obese patients.

At what point does it make sense for someone to use Semaglutide?

Semaglutide is indicated for chronic weight management in patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 27 kg/m2 or greater who have at least one weight-related ailment or in patients with a BMI of 30 kg/m2 or greater. It is truly a personal preference on when to start as it's for all shapes, sizes, and body or weight loss goals, but we like to meet with potential candidates first to conduct a consultation and provide medical clearance. At ELIVATE, they tend to say it's time when you are ready to commit to a better (and healthier) you. The majority of patients have at least 15% weight loss, with many losing more than 20%.

What is Accufit?

Accufit is a revolutionary, non-invasive sculpting treatment from Lutronic that tones the muscles of the abdomen, thighs, arms, and buttocks to deliver impressive, athletic results. Accufit delivers electro-muscular stimulation to the treated area through attached electrodes. The treatment is computer-controlled and involves four distinct waveforms to manipulate muscles and stimulate an actual multi-dimensional workout.

Accufit is the perfect complement to any fitness routine at any level (whether you are just starting out your fitness journey or a seasoned athlete). Don't forget, summer bodies are made in the winter. We have been achieving fantastic results with our patients on nutrition and weight loss programs by combining Accufit.

Nutrition is important. What are the things you should focus on most in your diet?

It is important to note there is no magical medicine or supplement. Consistency and commitment to one's health are key. If you are taking Semaglutide, it’s important to remember that the medication works best in addition to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

What foods should one avoid?

Avoid foods and beverages with added sugar and refined processed grains or fried and greasy foods.

What foods should you eat?

At ELIVATE, an expert will personally go over your nutritional intake and diet to see where improvements can be made. Everyone is different, but broadly speaking it's important to eat non-starchy vegetables, whole grains, protein-rich foods, and legumes. Also, proper water intake is essential to maintaining one's health and it certainly aids in weight loss. Patients taking Semaglutide must drink plenty of fluids to remain well-hydrated.
