A three-story, $31 million apartment-building conversion downtown is about to become the City of Angels' newest 'secret garden' hotel. The LA Times reports that a group of developers are ready to move on the property and turn it into a 44-room 'park-like' hotel.

Architect John Lautner’s Schaffer Residence, named for the home’s original owners, in the Verdugo Hills is listed for $1.395 million. Built in 1949 and recently restored to its original natural redwood, the home is widely considered one of Lautner’s most elegant designs.
