Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award
Yesterday was certainly a proud one for Judith Jamison, artistic director of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. An international jury, comprised of names like Saffron Burrows, Alan Gilbert, and Jorge Pardo, recognized her as the honoree of the prestigious Montblanc de la Culture Arts Patronage Award at the Joan Weill Center for Dance in New York.
Kick Diabetes in the Butt with Chef Becker and Dr. Shapiro
If you didn’t RSVP for today’s lunch at Abe & Arthur’s, we certainly feel sorry for you because renowned executive chef Franklin Becker and Dr. Howard M. Shapiro, author of “The New York Times” bestselling “Picture Perfect Weight Loss” series, have teamed up for something special. Chef Becker has been ruling the chopping blocks at the trendy dining locale that is owned by Eugene Remm & Mark Birnbaum of EMM Group (who we talked with in the most recent edition of “Haute Living New York”). To celebrate their new book, “Eat & Beat Diabetes with Picture Perfect Weight Loss,” the pair is hosting what will not only be one of the most delicious ways to spend a Tuesday afternoon, but an event chock-full of good-for-your-body delights, particularly in regards to managing diabetes.
Real Estate Hunt Leads J.Lo and Marc to Vero Beach
It’s assumed that J.Lo and Miami go together like bread and butter. But Lopez and her crooning hubby are looking for beachfront real estate elsewhere (though we don’t really understand why). This search has led them just a few miles north to Vero Beach (we repeat, you can understand our confusion here). Another property comes to mind when J.Lo and Marc are mentioned: Icon Brickell in Miami. This raises big question marks since Anthony told People in September that he bought the condo and vowed to make it, “the sexiest place in town.”
Plastiki Goes Pacific for Recycling Awareness
In a rather unusual attempt to spread awareness about the environment, Plastiki, the world’s first boat made entirely of plastic bottles, set sail from San Francisco this past Saturday morning on an 11,000-nautical-mile trek to Sydney in order to raise awareness about the world’s waste problem. Environmentalist and banking heir David De Rothschild, whom we interviewed about a year ago for the March/April edition issue of Haute Living San Francisco, and a crew from his organization, Adventure Ecology, are particularly adamant about the issue of recycling and firmly believe more of it should be done.

Lasik and Lee: Entourage Star Gets Lasered
Our good friend, Dr. Cory Lessner, lasik surgeon to the stars, and Rex Lee, Entourage celebrity, spent some quality time together recently in sunny South Florida when Lee was seen strutting the Sunshine State walking to the MD’s office to get his eyes fixed. The renowned doc has performed more than 20,000 eye surgeries throughout his career—all of which were successful and helpful for clients like professional NBA and NFL players. Even, formerly dubbed “The Rock” actor Dwayne Johnson trusts the guy.
Appleman Discusses Plans for Pulino’s in the Big Apple
Those inspirational lights are shining bright on Nate Appleman. His newest venture, Pulino’s Bar and Pizzeria in Manhattan with Keith McNally, is already receiving some pretty intense, but positive, reviews. Well, we figured it was bound to happen when the Big Apple is in Nate Appleman’s name. Pizza aficionado Adam Kuban, among others, already gave Appleman’s resto a heck of a thumbs up. But the James Beard Award-winner for “Best Rising Chef” is a bit uncertain about the skyrocketing notoriety.
Partying For a Cause: A Night at Sardi’s Big Success
The stars of Hollywood love to party for a good cause and that’s just what they did this past Thursday, March 18, when they came together for A Night at Sardi’s, an annual event benefiting the Alzheimer’s Association. Everyone who’s anybody in Hollywood was in attendance, including Demi Moore and her hot-stuff husband Ashton Kutcher, Star Treck-er Chris Pine, and Hollywood’s favorite funny man Seth Rogen and his longtime girlfriend, writer and producer Lauren Miller.
