Texas’ Biggest Spa Just Opened, and It’s Exactly as Over-the-Top as You’d Hope

Everything is bigger in Texas, and apparently that now includes the deep breath. Canyon Ranch has opened its Austin resort on more than 600 acres of Hill Country, and the centerpiece is what the brand bills as the largest spa in the state. If your idea of a reset requires more than a massage and a stern reminder to drink water, consider this your sign.
Let’s talk numbers, because they’re absurd (in the best way). Forty treatment rooms. Two pools. A salon, a boutique, hot and cold therapies, immersive rain showers and separate men’s, women’s and coed lounges for drifting between appointments in a robe as if it were your full-time job. You could lose a day in here.
That’s rather the point.
More Than a Very Big Massage
The treatment menu blends classic spa therapies, Eastern practices and the newest beauty and recovery tech, so a stay bends to whatever brought you. For some, that’s a brutal quarter or a marathon training block. For others (no judgment), the facial is the main event, which is why you’ll want to check the calendar for celebrity facialist Iván Pol, the man behind The Beauty Sandwich, who’s coming in for a weekend. Plan accordingly.
And the spa has backup. The Wellspring, a 12,000-square-foot medical center, houses CR Vitality, the resort’s recovery lab, while The Barn adds another 27,000 square feet of gym, studios and outdoor field. This is not a spa with a gym attached. It’s a spa with an entire support staff.
The rest of the logistics are blissfully handled. The resort sits less than an hour from downtown Austin on 1.5 miles of Lake Travis shoreline, Texas firm Lake Flato designed it to blur indoors and out, and the stay is all-inclusive, from dinner at Estella under Culinary Director Val Cantú to Genesis transfers from Austin-area airports. Your only job is to show up and lie down.
Biggest spa in Texas? Canyon Ranch says so, and with 40,000 square feet to back it up, I’m not about to argue.
