Haute Beauty: What are some of the biggest misconceptions people have about daily sun protection?
Dr. Bhanusali: A few include:
• Believing SPF 15 is enough. Dermatologists recommend at least SPF 30 daily.
• Thinking you cannot get a sunburn on cloudy days. This is a common misconception and completely false.
• Believing darker skin cannot get skin cancer. We actively work to educate people about this. Darker skin can certainly develop skin cancer, and it is also more prone to hyperpigmentation and issues related to pigment with prolonged UV exposure.

Haute Beauty: How can dermatologists better reach Gen Z and Millennials, who show varying awareness and habits around sun care?
Dr. Bhanusali: Much of it involves being active on social media. You have to meet patients where they are, and education is paramount.

Haute Beauty: What SPF level do you typically recommend for daily use, and why? Can you explain the importance of reapplication, especially since one in seven people surveyed say they never reapply?
Dr. Bhanusali: At minimum, SPF 30 or higher. Most people do not reapply, so it is crucial to reapply, especially when you are outside. We recommend doing so every two hours.

Haute Beauty: What should consumers look for in a sunscreen when choosing a formula for sensitive skin?
Dr. Bhanusali: Historically, physical sunscreens were believed to be better tolerated. With advances in formulation, there are excellent options in both physical and chemical sunscreens.
