Joseph Cozza Salon Raises 90K At Inaugural Charity Fashion Show

Charity fashion shows are all the rage these days. Three have already taken place this May, and one more is scheduled for later this month. At last week’s Joseph Cozza Salon’s inaugural annual fashion show, A City in Color, $90K was raised to support local sex trafficking victims attend beauty school and to create wigs for teen cancer patients.

An unusually wet May forced the salon’s owner, Blake McCall, to make the last minute decision of a venue change. Instead of hosting the fashion show in Union Square, the party and presentation were moved indoors to The Village, an event space on Market Street. “Of course we are disappointed with the freak weather this week, but the show must go on,” McCall said in a statement. “At the end of the day, this event is about trafficking victims and teen cancer patients, and a little rain won’t stop us from supporting these important concerns.”

The rain didn’t stop the fashion lovers and salon goers from coming out in their most colorful cocktail attire. Over 200 people attended the evening event which featured flowing Chandon sparkling wine and Asian-inspired bites from E&O Trading Company. At the reception before the show, guests mingled and watched artist Shane Grammer paint two custom creations that were later a part of the live auction.

The main event took place in The Village’s downstairs banquet room. A large photo of Union Square was projected onto one wall of the space allowing guests to feel as if they were in the initially planned venue. Electric violinist Spags kickstarted the festivities with a lively performance that energized the crowd. Next singer Kechi, from America’s Got Talent, performed soulful renditions of empowering songs.

Robi Quick led the live auction and the fashion show, which featured J’Amy Tarr, followed. The atmosphere was festive and fun, and despite the seriousness of the causes, the event was raising funds for, all had a great time. Notables in attendance included Farah and Victor Makras, Julia Angel, Missie McCall, and Jay Patel.
