Angelina Jolie Attends L.A. Premiere Of Jane Goodall Documentary

Angelina Jolie came out to support pal Jane Goodall at the Hollywood Bowl Monday night for the L.A. premiere of Jane, the new documentary based on the life of the celebrated primatologist. Goodall has always been a huge inspiration for Jolie, who first met the activist and UN Messenger of Peace in her early 20s. At 83 years old, Goodall still travels 300 days a year, speaking up around the world for animal rights and environmental causes.

Jane, directed by Brett Morgen, is the untold story of Goodall’s life, using footage from the ’60s of her experiences in Gombe, Tanzinia, intercut with present-day interviews. Goodall’s chimpanzee research challenged the male-dominated consensus of the time. Her 55-year study of the social interactions between chimpanzees has helped to revolutionize our understanding of the natural world.

Philip Glass, who wrote the music for the film, directed a live orchestral performance at the Hollywood Bowl of the film’s score. A slew of other celebrities came out to view the new film, including Kate Bosworth, Judd Apatow, Pamela Adlon, Diane Warren, Marcia Gay Hayden and Dermot Mulroney.

Courteney Monroe, CEO of National Geographic Global Networks, introduced the film to the L.A. crowd, who welcomed Goodall with a standing ovation.

Jane debuted with rave reviews at Toronto and New York Film Festivals. Hollywood Reporter called the film a “wondrous and moving account of a remarkable life that puts us right there with Goodall to share directly in her discoveries.”

Jane opens in theaters on Friday, October 20th.
