The Taylor Swift Concert Money Couldn’t Buy (Well, $14 Million Could): The Academy Museum Gala

Taylor Swift performed at the 2026 Academy Museum Gala... but that was only part of the evening as every major star descended upon Hollywood.

Put Charlize Theron, Kim Kardashian, Steven Spielberg and Sabrina Carpenter in the same room and you already have a night. Then add Taylor Swift playing an intimate set for a room full of the most famous people on Earth, three tributes to genuine cinema legends and more than $14 million raised, and you have the sixth annual Academy Museum Gala, held in Los Angeles on October 17, 2026, in partnership with Rolex, honoring John Carpenter, Charlize Theron and Colman Domingo.

Hollywood, for once, was the audience.

With Tom Ford, Robert Rodriguez, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw as co-chairs, the guest list could have filled several awards-season front rows (and, frankly, did). But the evening had a purpose beyond famous faces under one roof: helping preserve the movies, artists and creative achievements that gave everyone a reason to show up in the first place.

Three Honorees, Three Very Different Hollywood Legacies

The night opened with remarks from Amy Homma, director and president of the Academy Museum and Academy Collection, reflecting on the institution’s achievements as it marks its fifth anniversary. Museum trustee Olivier de Givenchy followed with a toast, and then Jamie Lee Curtis took the stage to champion a genre she knows rather intimately. (Laurie Strode would approve.)

Curtis spoke about the history and enduring pull of horror, spotlighting the museum’s newest exhibition, The Horror Show, before introducing Robert Rodriguez to present John Carpenter with the Luminary Award. The honor goes to an artist whose singular contributions have expanded what filmmaking can do, and it’s hard to think of a better fit: a director and composer who has shaped how generations experience suspense. Curtis, whose career began in Carpenter’s Halloween, setting the scene? Perfect casting.

Sigourney Weaver then presented Charlize Theron with the Icon Award, celebrating a career with serious global impact. Theron moves between bruising action roles and transformative dramatic performances like few others, which makes her an ideal recipient of an award devoted to lasting reach.

After dinner, Judd Apatow introduced Tom Ford, who presented Colman Domingo with the Vantage Award, which honors an artist challenging dominant narratives around cinema. Fitting, for an actor whose performances bring depth, complexity and humanity to every story he chooses.

Then Taylor Swift Took the Stage

Even in a room this used to extraordinary entertainment, the finale was a draw.

Introduced by Conan O’Brien, Taylor Swift closed the celebration with an intimate performance of some of her most beloved songs. For an audience of people who spend most of their professional lives being watched, it was their turn to settle in and enjoy the show. (I’d wager more than a few of them were mouthing the words.)

The crowd was almost dizzying. Among the guests: A$AP Rocky, Ana de Armas, Andrew Garfield, Alexander Skarsgård, Demi Moore, Jacob Elordi, Dakota and Elle Fanning, Greta Lee and Daniel Kaluuya. Elsewhere in the room were Hailey Bieber, Kendall Jenner, Kim Kardashian, Pamela Anderson, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Kerry Washington, Sarah Paulson and Jodie Turner-Smith. Music was just as well represented, with Sabrina Carpenter, Rosé, Camila Cabello, Kylie Minogue, John Legend and Janelle Monáe all in attendance.

A Dinner Worth Staying Seated For

Guest chef Antonia Lofaso teamed with Wolfgang Puck Catering on the menu, while the bar brought its own roster of names: Tequila Don Julio on specialty cocktails, Clarendelle and Domaine Clarence Dillon on wine, Piper-Heidsieck on champagne and Dassai on sake.

Keith Baptista executed the event design, with talent relations by Special Projects. Rolex, the museum’s founding supporter and official watch partner, returned as presenting partner, continuing a relationship that dates to the institution’s very beginnings.

The Number That Mattered Most

For all the attention the room commanded (and its musical finale), the night’s most consequential figure was the more than $14 million raised.

Proceeds support the museum’s exhibitions, screenings, education initiatives, K–12 programs and access efforts serving the public and the Los Angeles community, which means the gala’s impact reaches far beyond the people lucky enough to be in the room.

At night’s end, Homma returned to thank supporters and invite guests to explore The Horror Show on their way out. After dinner, champagne and Taylor Swift, there was still one more attraction: a reminder of just how much movie magic that building holds.
