You know Billy Zane…he’s always the villian, (for the most part) and probably most memorably as the guy who tried to split up Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic. But Zane is not really all that bad, (personally I loved him as the fake Damon Bradley in Only You) he just has a tendency to play those naughty boys on film. Tonight though, was a completely different direction for the thespian – amidst a sellout crowd of fellow actors, art patrons and friends – he debuted “KILLING WITH LOVE” at the Frank Pictures Gallery, a collection of works he has created over the last 14 years.
This was something Zane started while spending 7 months on the aforementioned Cameron blockbuster, but it has now become a creative outlet he explores and enjoys no matter where that ‘other job’ takes him.
Zane says that he derives much of his inpiration from the Japanese sword fighting martial art of Kendo, but one can certainly recognize – a little here, a little there — the subtle influence of the places he has traveled and the people he has met along the way. After all, it is said you write what you know – doesn’t the same go for painting?
Killing with Love runs from June 26th – September 1st, 2010
