Haute 100: See Serena Williams, Usain Bolt Train With Younger Selves
When it comes to shooting a tear-jerking, awe-inspiring commercial, the sports-themed beverage company Gatorade certainly has a knack for that. The beverage company recently released a new advertisement featuring Haute 100 lister Serena Williams as well as the world’s fast man Usain Bolt, basketball player Paul George and volleyball star April Ross.
In probably the cutest commercial of this season, all four sport stars are visited by their younger self. The one minute and ten seconds video commences with a younger Williams standing over the tennis player at 6 a.m. uttering, “It’s time to play,” as the loud jolting alarm goes off. Viewers also see a young George running alongside the baseball player saying, “Time to go to work.” Bolt’s younger self stares at the mature Bolt in awe rhetorically asking, “How amazing is this?” Throughout the entire ad, each athlete’s younger self continues to push and encourage his or her older self.
The ad is part of the brand’s Olympics marketing push from TBWA\Chiat\Day in Los Angeles.
“The work builds from ‘Win From Within,’ Gatorade’s brand platform and the north star of the work that we do, by showing that motivation comes from the first time athletes feel the pure love of sport,” Renato Fernandez, creative director, TBWA\Chiat\Day said to AD Week. “[There’s] a love from within capable of motivating and pushing them through all the hardship and taking them to the next level.”
In addition, fans can purchase limited edition bottles featuring Williams, Bolt, George, Ross and Lionel Messi as part of the brand’s campaign. Gatorade is also hosting a competition, where fans can vote on their favorite charity for the brand to donate $50,000 on their behalf. You can cast your vote daily to help your favorite charity win big.
