Swire Properties Donates $600,000 To The Underline in Miami
Miami is developing into an extremely dynamic city. At the forefront of creating new and exciting projects in Dade County is Swire Properties. Their recent $600,000 donation to The Underline will help turn the underutilized land below Miami’s Metrorail into an iconic 10-mile linear park, world-class urban trail and living art destination.
To celebrate this generous donation Swire Properties and The Underline hosted a cocktail reception at its new East Miami Hotel at Brickell City Centre. The haute event was attended by over 200 supporters who came to see what this innovative project will entail. Notables guests included Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez, State Representative Jose Felix “Pepi” Diaz and Senator Miguel Diaz de la Portilla, Claire Laverty, Meg Daly, Yolanda and Jeff Berkowitz, Brandi Reddick, Carole and Oscar Seikaly, Soledad and Justin Lowe, Ugo Colombo, Carlos Rosso, Anthony Spinello, Naomi Fisher, Vivian Del Rio, Linda Levy Goldberg, Stephen Owens and Bhakti Baxter.
Swire’s donation will be earmarked for the construction of the Brickell portion of The Underline and will seamlessly connect with Swire’s renovation of the Eighth Street Metromover station and surrounding green space, which is located adjacent to the 5.4-million-square foot Brickell City Centre.
In addition to Swire’s announcement, the cocktail reception included several other announcements about The Underline including a $2 million check presentation from the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation, the unveiling of four temporary art pieces that will be installed at the project and a confirmation of support from the Knight Foundation which recently awarded $250,000 to The Underline.
