Flying Private to Art Basel Miami Beach 2026: The Insider’s Arrival Guide

Quick answer: Art Basel Miami Beach 2026 takes place December 4–6 at the Miami Beach Convention Center, with invitation-only VIP Preview Days on December 2 and 3. Most private flyers land at Miami-Opa Locka Executive (OPF), about 30 minutes from Miami Beach, with MIA, FLL and Miami Executive (TMB) as strong alternatives.

Every December, Miami Beach becomes the center of the art world for one exhilarating week. Collectors, gallerists, curators and the people who simply love being in the room descend on the city for Art Basel Miami Beach, and the satellite fairs, dinners, beach parties and private viewings that orbit it. For many of them, the week begins not at the Convention Center but on a ramp, stepping off an aircraft into the soft South Florida air.

Here is what to know about the 2026 edition, and how to arrive like you planned it months ago, even if you didn’t.

According to Art Basel, the 2026 edition of Art Basel Miami Beach takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center, 1901 Convention Center Drive, from December 4 to 6. The VIP Preview Days fall on Wednesday, December 2, and Thursday, December 3, and are by invitation only.

This year brings a fresh look on the show floor. Art Basel has announced a reconfigured layout organized around four hospitality plazas rather than five, designed to create longer sightlines across the Convention Center and make the fair easier to navigate from end to end. The edition also introduces an expanded outdoor public program, with two major projects presented free to the public beyond the Convention Center walls, including a new body of work by James Turrell unveiled by the Turrell Art Foundation and Art Basel, supported by Pace Gallery.

For those holding a VIP card, the preview days are where much of the week’s real business happens, which is precisely why arrival timing matters. Landing Tuesday or early Wednesday means you walk into First Choice rested rather than rushed.

Choosing your airport

South Florida is unusually well served for private aviation, and the right choice depends on where you are staying and how you like to move. Haute Jets has put together a detailed Art Basel Miami Beach 2026 private jet guide comparing the options; here is the short version.

Miami-Opa Locka Executive (OPF). The favorite of the art crowd, and for good reason. Miami-Dade Aviation describes OPF as offering full FBO service and U.S. Customs on the airfield, and places it about 30 minutes from Miami Beach and 35 minutes from Downtown Miami. The field is home to several well-known FBOs, including Signature Aviation, Atlantic Aviation and Jet Aviation, and Signature lists its OPF terminal as open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For international arrivals and anyone heading straight to a Collins Avenue hotel, it is often the most graceful route in.

Miami International (MIA). Closer to the city’s core, MIA is a natural choice for guests staying in Brickell, Downtown or the Design District. Signature Aviation operates an FBO at MIA, listed as open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, giving private flyers a separate, quieter experience from the main commercial terminals.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL). For those splitting the week between Miami Beach and Fort Lauderdale, or staying north along the coast, FLL is a practical option. Signature Aviation runs an FBO there, also listed as operating around the clock.

Miami Executive (TMB). Formerly known as Kendall-Tamiami, Miami Executive Airport sits in South Miami-Dade. Miami-Dade Aviation notes that it is a reliever to Miami International, about 15 minutes from the business centers of South Miami-Dade County, with an FAA-staffed control tower and a U.S. Customs private aircraft clearance facility. Signature Aviation’s TMB location lists hours of 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. local time, with call-out available on request, so it suits travelers on a daytime schedule, or those headed toward Coral Gables, Pinecrest or the Keys afterward.

Timing the week

Art Basel week is among the busiest stretches of the year for South Florida aviation, and the ramps at the most popular airports fill quickly. The most relaxed travelers tend to settle their plans well ahead: fixing arrival and departure days, deciding whether they will need repositioning flights for side trips, and confirming which FBO they prefer before the calendar fills.

A few habits from seasoned fairgoers:

  • Arrive before the preview. If you’re attending the VIP days, plan to land by Tuesday or early Wednesday so the first morning on the floor feels unhurried.
  • Think about Sunday. The fair closes on December 6, and departures cluster as the week winds down. Building flexibility into your return gives you room for one more studio visit or a late lunch.
  • Match the airport to the hotel. A beachfront suite points toward OPF; a Brickell residence may make MIA the smarter choice.
  • Plan for international arrivals. If you’re coming from abroad, choose an airport with on-field Customs, such as OPF or TMB, and confirm details with your FBO ahead of time.

Beyond the Convention Center

Part of the magic of the week is everything happening around the fair: the expanded outdoor program, gallery dinners, collection visits and the parties that stretch late into the night across Miami Beach and the mainland. Flying private gives you the freedom to shape the week around those moments rather than around an airline schedule, arriving in time for an opening and leaving when the conversation is finished, not when a boarding window closes.

The art will be extraordinary. The way you arrive can be, too.
