Haute 100 LA: Watch Elton John Perform at 2015 Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival
While wrapping up his music career, with a grand finale tour, Grammy award winner Sir Elton John took the stage in San Francisco for the sold-out 2015 Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival.
The legendary performer, all dressed in blue, performed a bevy of his chart-topping hits such as “Bennie and the Jets,” “Candle in the Wind,” “Levon,” “Philadelphia Freedom,” “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road,” “Rocket Man,” “Your Song,” “Sad Songs (Say So Much),” “Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word,” “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting,” to name a few. Even though he performed a two-hour set, in addition to an encore performance, fans waited in hopes of another encore performance.
Prior to John, fellow British singer and songwriter Sam Smith took to the main stage and gave a heartfelt speech. He said, “San Francisco is my favorite place to go in America, and being able to play before Elton John is a dream come true for me.”
About 200,000 people gathered in Golden Gate Park over the three-day weekend. Other performers included St. Paul & the Broken Bones, Mumford & Sons, Kendrick Lamar, The Black Keys and much more.
In addition, John’s surprise guest appearance at the first of Ed Sheeran’s trio of sold-out concerts at Wembley Stadium in July will be featured in a one-hour NBC television special this Saturday, Aug. 16th.
John announced earlier this spring he plans to spend more time with his family. “The simple truth is I want to spend more time with my family and less time touring,” he said. “I am all too aware of how precious the time ahead is. My sons are growing up so quickly, their early years are just flying by and I want to be there with them.”
