Aspen Schools on Track to Get Flight Simulator

News | February 4, 2013

Aspen schools are already high in the mountains, and with the purchase of a $100,000 flight simulator, students will have the chance to mimic going even higher, the Aspen Daily News reported. A flight simulator will be stored on the school property, and aviation then incorporated into curriculum. The Aspen School District’s elementary, middle and high school share the same campus.

The program is funded by private donations, and was brought forth by Greg Roark, a pilot and advanced ground-school instructor. On Friday, the flight simulator was ordered and Roark expects it to arrive in a couple of weeks. The first phase of the program includes ground-school instruction and costs about $25,000. Roark’s nonprofit, Aspen Aerospace Alliance, has raised enough for the initial phase and the purchase of the simulator.
