Dylan Lauren is not just the daughter of world-famous fashion designer Ralph Lauren, she is also an entrepreneur in her own right. Owner and creator of Dylan’s Candy Bar in Manhattan, Lauren has been planning to expand her empire across the country and now it appears a new location is about to open in Los Angeles.
According to reports, Bath & Body Works located at the Famers Market in Los Angeles has been shuttered and signage was posted soon after indicating that Dylan’s Candy Bar would be moving in. Expected to feature the same sweet treats as the Manhattan store, the Los Angeles location will be 1,200 square feet and will include locally made candies as well.
The Los Angeles location is expected to open within the next few months.
Dylan’s Candy Bar currently has stores in New York City (flagship), East Hampton and in Houston, Texas. According to the website, a Miami store and café opened in winter 2012 and the Los Angeles store is pegged for fall 2012.
As a child, Lauren fell in love with Willy Wonka and has been self-described as a “candy freak” ever since. She opened Dylan’s Cady Bar in New York in 2001 and subsequently established a lifestyle brand offering candy-themed T-shirts, jewelry, hats, totes, gift baskets, pillows, spa products and even a Dylan’s Candy Bar board game. She is also the author of the book Unwrap Your Sweet Life.
Lauren said, “My whole life, I’ve been a candy girl. I’ve eaten candy since I was a little girl, and as I got older, I started discovering candies from all over the world. I love the packaging and the shapes and the colors and textures, and I started collecting it more to look at it. I had them on my shelves, and I made a lot of art with candy. Then it evolved into a retail store, and we wanted it to be the world’s largest candy store.”
“Despite the recession, candy is and I think always will be the best affordable luxury. There’s the really fancy chocolate and then there’s the jelly bean. You can find something for everyone, whether it’s a guy on Wall Street or a stay-at-home mom. It can be as big or small as you want.”
