Daniel Craig To Open 2012 Summer Olympics In Character As James Bond

News | April 3, 2012

Following a personal invitation from Queen Elizabeth II, Daniel Craig will help to open the 2012 London Summer Olympics in character as James Bond.

Opening ceremony artistic director Danny Boyle and Craig have shot a skit titled “The Arrival,” in which 007 travels to Buckingham Palace and is informed that his next mission is to launch the 2012 games. He is then taken by helicopter to the Olympic stadium in Stratford, East London, and parachutes into the arena. Boyle and Craig were given unprecedented access to the palace and its private rooms since the film was sanctioned by the Queen herself. It will air during BBC’s coverage of the opening ceremony.

And 2012 is a big year for London, and not because of the Summer Olympics alone. The Queen is celebrating her Diamond Jubilee, and it’s the 50th anniversary of the Bond films as produced by rights owners Eon.
