Gloomy And Conservative Styles Shown At Russian Fashion Week Reflect Current Mood Of Society
From the collections shown at Russian Fashion Week, it looks like autumn/winter 2012/13 is going to be a gloomy and conservative one.
Models were made to look minimalistic with no jewelry, pale makeup and simple hair. They walked the runway in long dark skirts and dresses, thick gray sweaters and coats at catwalk shows for some of Russia’s top designers.
Designers attributed the drab colors and austere collections of Fashion Week to the mood of a Russian society that has had a winter of discontent, filled with mass demonstrations in the run-up to and after presidential elections won by Vladimir Putin.
The demonstrations, which began after the Dec. 4 parliamentary election and went on until after the March 4 presidential vote, caused designers like Kseniya Sobchak, Julia Nikolayeva and Slava Zaytsev to alter their usual styles.
