OC Concept store on Madison Avenue—known for its presentation of luxury products and intriguing art—unveiled the United States debut of the latest work by artist Michael Benisty. The exclusive viewing—from Oct. 28 to Nov. 14—of “Die to Live” by Michael Benisty features a one of a kind skull sculpture that stands at eight feet tall. The skull, which was produced in collaboration with Swarovski Crystal, weighs 1100 lbs and is encrusted with more than 345,000 Golden-Black SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS.
Belgian-born artist Michael Benisty spent more than a year building “Die to Live”. The idea was already conceived when he photographed Nadja Swarovski for Whitewall magazine. He asked the crystal heiress to view the skull in progress and they quickly decided to work together on the project. The design and building process of “Die to Live” took over a year—transitioning from a clay mold to a grandeur structure cast in stainless steel, with a mirror polishing and, of course, the hundreds of thousands of Swarovski crystals applied in a fleur-de-lis design.
