Haute 100 Update: LeBron James and ‘Team Melo’ to Take on Philadelphia for another Star-Studded Exhibition
What lockout? Last month on Aug. 30, we saw some of the NBA’s finest players take to the court for a star-studded exhibition game in Baltimore and this month is no different. Carmelo Anthony will be returning to play with his Baltimore-based “Team Melo”, comprised of Haute Living cover man LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul, Josh Selby, Eric Bledsoe, and others against players representing Philadelphia.
“It’s going to be fun,” said Kurk Lee, an official with the Melo League who helped organize the game. The game will be taking place on Sept. 25 at The Palestra at the University of Pennsylvania, one of college basketball’s most highly regarded venues, with tipoff at 6 p.m. Tickets range from $35-$50 each, with additional tickets to be donated to community groups and a portion of the profits to be donated to Philadelphia-based charities.
Hakim Warrick will lead “Team Philly” and is said to be sharing the court with the likes of Tyreke Evans, Lou Williams, Markieff Morris, Marcus Moris, Kyle Lowry, and Wayne Ellington, among others. Organizers of the event have attempted to obtain Kobe Bryant to play, but he has yet to commit.
This is just the latest is a slew of high-profile exhibition games. Last month, we saw Team Melo beat out a Washington, D.C. league, and games throughout the summer have featured big-name NBA-ers like Brandon Jennings, Michael Beasley, and more. The games have all garnered much national attention because of the lockout – but it’s definitely good to see the boys on the court regardless.
