SoulActivate

The latest newcomer to the fitness scene (opening today) is 305 Fitness. Located in Kenmore Square, this underground cardio-inspired dance party is the first of its kind to Boston (other locations include New York, Los Angeles and Washington, DC). The gym has inspiring quotes that line the walls, including a “you look great” mirror that lights up in the shower. As for the 55-minute class itself, think cardio workouts that infuse dance moves, sports drills and high intensity interval training for a full body workout. The expert behind the lighting system has designed sets for Mary J. Blige, The Roots, John Legend, Jessie J, Moby, Busta Rhymes, Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Diana Ross, Flo’Rida and John Mayer. Start by signing up for the TRAIN class at Everybody Fights (there are two locations in Boston – one in the Seaport District and the other in the Financial District). Each interval-based circuit training class focuses on building strength and increasing muscular endurance and recovery required for a 12-round fight. You will get in tip top shape with 12-15 stations of Heavy Bags, Double End Bags, Upper Cut Bags, Suspension Training, Air-Dynes, Rowers, Battle Ropes, Ring Work and Kettle Bells.

The West Coast YogaWorks is just as popular here in Boston as it is in Santa Monica – and for good reason. This Back Bay yoga favorite will get you into great shape, show you how to maintain proper posture and bring balance to your body. The Vinyasa and Deep Relaxation class held here combines elements of vinyasa, yin and restorative designed to loosen the outer layers of the body. It finishes off with some yin poses for an extended savasana. You’ll leave feeling relaxed, rejuvenated and refreshed.
