What with the Mill Valley Film Festival and San Francisco Fall Art & Antiques Show October is shaping up to be a busy month. Also on our to-do list? The following seven events.
The Tenderloin Neighborhood Development Corporation (TNDC) is hosting its 26th annual Pool Toss on Wednesday, October 10 at Chambers Eat + Drink. The TNDC supports over 4,000 of SF’s lowest-income individuals, and the Pool Toss is their biggest fundraiser of the year. Karlene Holloman, the CEO of Point Hospitality, Commander David Lazar, of the SFPD, and Philip Porter, the vice president of Enterprise Community Investment, are a few of the notable individuals who will be “thrown” into the pool at the Phoenix Hotel.
March of Dimes is joining forces with Bay Area moms to present its Signature Chefs Auction and Gala. On Friday, October 12 the baby-centric nonprofit is hosting a tasting of SF’s most delicious cuisine. Chefs from 25 Lusk, Navio, Lord Stanley, Dirty Habit, and more will be serving cuisine at the Ritz-Carlton. The inspirational event is being hosted by three moms, Azizah Rowen, Wendy Armstrong, and Jessica Johnson, who each experienced premature birth and loss.

On Sunday, October 14, 40 of the city’s top chefs will collaborate to create an exceptional meal at CUESA’s Sunday Supper. Now in its 16th year, the annual event supports the nonprofit’s education programs that cultivate a healthy food future for all. The farm to city feast takes place at the Ferry Building. Featured chefs include Aaron Toesing of Maybeck’s, Raj Dixit of Michael Mina, and Gabriela Camara of Cala.
Cavallo Point Lodge is hosting a BFF Night on Thursday, October 18 at its Mercantile & Art Gallery. The event is in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a portion of ticket sales will benefit the Marin County-based organization Zero Breast Cancer. Guests will enjoy drinks and mini beauty treatments like makeovers with Christina Choi Cosmetics. There will also be a trunk show of Lynn Tallerico Handbags.

Iconic photographer, Baron Wolman, who is known for snapping pics of iconic musicians like the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix, will be in town for a special exhibit on Friday, October 19. 10 of Wolman’s original images will be on display at the Hotel Zeppelin, and guests will be able to interact with the photographer and purchase his yet-to-be-released Instagram book, My Generation. Wolman will also present a series of works from Woodstock, which is celebrating its 49th anniversary this year.
Indian Springs in Calistoga has opened a newly renovated event space called the Barn. Check it out on Saturday, October 20 when the resort hosts a special Moroccan style dinner. Indian Springs’ executive chef Sergio Morales is cooking up a multi-course feast in partnership with Canard Vineyards, who will be pouring the wine. The meal will take place in a private rose garden where there are stunning views of nearby Mt. Lincoln.

With Taste America, the James Beard Foundation is headed back to SF. The long weekend itinerary starts on Friday, October 26 with a one-of-a-kind dinner at the Fairmont. The evening will begin with a reception featuring bites from local chefs such as Che Fico’s David Nayfeld. A sit-down meal follows with food prepared by Val Cantu, Angela Pinkerton and more. On Saturday, October 27, the James Beard Foundation is popping up at Sur la Table on Union Street with a full day of cooking demos, tastings, and book signings.
