World-leading hospitality group sbe has taken to the Bahamas for its newest venture, debuting the 10th location of the iconic Katsuya restaurant at the newly-opened Baha Mar Casino in the Bahamas. The three-part hotel destination is only partially finished, with two remaining hotels—one being the newest SLS hotel—set to open within the next few months. The stunning new hot spot, located in the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar‘s casino area, brings Chef Katsuya Uechi‘s acclaimed Japanese classics to a stunning design by creator Philippe Starck, maintaining the contemporary and sophisticated aesthetic of the sbe brand.

Just steps away from the pristine white beaches of New Providence, Bahamas, Katsuya is poised to become the island’s newest go-to destination for five-star dining in an unbeatable atmosphere, with indoor and outdoor seating and hip interior elements. In classic Philippe Starck design, the interior utilizes natural wood elements contrasted by white and tan leather seating, high ceilings and glamorous accents. The most striking element is the Dragon Room, which will be utilized for private dining and events, decked out by custom wallpaper resembling dragon scales lining the walls and the ceiling, creating a dramatic contrast of colors featuring tones of black, white, gray and hints of red. The room is subtly lit, enhancing the glamorous, sexy atmosphere of the dining destination.

For its debut, guests got to experience the five-star cuisine that maintains the hype of the iconic Japanese restaurant. Chef Katsuya Uechi spared no ingredient or expense as he showcased all elements of the extensive menu, including signature dishes like the Baked Crab Hand Roll, Crispy Rice with Spicy Tuna, Salmon Sashimi with Caviar, boatloads of fresh nigiri straight from the sea and plenty of toro to go around throughout the evening. Guests also got to taste the finest A5 Wagyu skewers generously passed throughout the party with sips of Perrier-Jouët and Katsuya signature cocktails, like the Katsuya Fresh (grey goose vodka, rock sake, hand-crushed English cucumbers and freshly-squeezed lime juice) and the Cucumber Watermelon Mojito (Bacardi rum, crushed seedless watermelon, English cucumbers, fresh mint and freshly squeezed lime juice)—the perfect accompaniment to the tropical island breeze.

The party remained strong all night long as the restaurant welcomed in locals and visitors alike to get a taste of the newest addition to the island. Fire dancers paraded through the outside patio area as music echoed throughout the party inside and out. In attendance were Chef Katsuya Uechi, himself, along with Sebastien Silvestri (Senior VP of Food & Beverage at sbe), Dionisio D’Aguilar (Bahamas Minister of Tourism and Aviation) and Graeme Davis (President of Baha Mar)—who all took part in the ribbon-cutting ceremony—Samurai swords in hand—prior to the grand event. Bravo’s New York Housewife and socialite Carole Radziwill also joined in on the celebratory fête.
