Haute Spots Nantucket: Met on Main

There is nothing quite like summer on Nantucket with its cobblestone lined Main Street, boutique shops and one of our favorite restaurants, Met on Main. The restaurant came to the island a few years ago compliments of Kathy Sidell, who owns and operates Met Restaurant Group that also has locations in Dedham, Natick and Boston’s Back Bay.

After a day in the sun at Cisco Beach, request a table on the back patio for lunch or dinner (the restaurant is also open for breakfast complete with the island’s best bloody Marys),  The cozy patio is filled with lush greenery and beautifully lit at night with Moroccan lanterns.

Like the food portions, the drinks are enormous, especially their signature build-your-own bloody Mary (we prefer ours made with celery, lime, olives, Old Bay, Grey Goose, lobster and bacon) that you can even add a mini cheeseburger slider to make it a combo lunch and drink all in one.

If you decide to dine inside, walk past the long bar that opens up to the gorgeous blue and white nautical themed dining room and reflects the elegant beauty of Nantucket.

We came here recently for lunch and got started with a dozen briny deep cup Nantucket oysters served with spicy cocktail sauce. Don’t miss the uber creamy coastal clam chowder topped with a “tower” of fried clams.  Trust us, the start of summer never tasted so good.

Met on Main specializes in local fare, including Nantucket’s homegrown vegetables and the island’s fresh, local seafood.along with some unique finds (think Asian, Mexican, Polynesian, and American flavors).

We recommend the massive turkey club, but be prepared this oversized sandwich is large enough to share between two (although tasty enough you may not want to). Layers upon layers of smoked turkey, avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato and mayo are overstuffed on sunflower grain bread.

Other dishes on the lunch menu include a rare ahi tuna burger, Bolognese with shell pasta, fresh shucked New England lobster roll served on a buttery griddled bun, golden beer battered fish and chips as well as pan roasted halibut and tender steak tips served with bacon hash brown and a fried egg.

All of the portions here are oversized, even the salads. A must have here is the famed burger that placed the Met brand as a standout. Picture a massive juicy burger topped with hash brown potato (yes, we did just say that), crisp bacon, melted Swiss cheese and decadent truffle mayo served on a buttered potato roll with a side of golden fries.

Met on Main is located at 38 Main Street in Nantucket, Mass.
